JAZZ4EVER-Records was founded 1989 in Nuremberg/Germany as a
result of an interview of Alfred Mangold with drummer Wolfgang
Haffner in a jazz programme of "Jazztime Nürnberg", which is
produced by the city`s jazzclub "Jazz Studio Nürnberg" and
broadcasted by the private radio station "Radio F".
The first release was, in consequence, a live recording of the
Wolfgang Haffner Jazz Quartet featuring Tony Lakatos, by the
Bayerischer Rundfunk, Studio Franken. Until 1997 four more CDs
with Wolfgang Haffner followed, ranging from hardbop to fusion.
(Today Wolfgang Haffner is a member of Klaus Doldinger´s
Passport, but he played as well with Albert Mangelsdorff, Johnny
Griffin, Clifford Jordan, James Moody, Steve Coleman, Jan
Garbarek, Randy Brecker, Eddie Daniels and others.)
The label´s aim was to create a platform for mainly - but not
exclusively - younger and less known musicians of the remarkable
Franconian jazz scene. Up to now they have been amply
represented by Brodmann/Pausch, Marco Piludu, Bernhard Pichl,
Peter Fulda, and the group "Der Rote Bereich (The Red Zone)"
with Frank Möbus and Rudi Mahall.
The originally geographical limitation was exceeded soon after
the labels foundation, with the third record presenting the
Swiss tenor saxophonist Roman Schwaller. You will also find
"metropolitan jazz" in JAZZ4EVER - Records - catalogue: the
Association Urbanetique and groups with tenor player Christof
Griese, representing the Berlin jazz scene as well as now Frank
Möbus and Rudi Mahall. And you will even find US-American
musicians: alto player Pete Yellin, the trumpet players Benny
Bailey and Tim Hagans, trombone player Hal Crook and bassist Ed
Schuller.
JAZZ4EVER-Records is a synonym for fresh and lively jazz music
from mainstream to avantgarde, based on tradition and looking
forward to the modern trend.
